Metabolomics Scientists
Join a high-throughput metabolomics platform analyzing more than 100,000 human plasma samples using seven Waters G3 QTOF mass spectrometers as part of a major European population health initiative.
The Center for Molecular Fingerprinting (CMF, www.cmf.hu ), led by the 2023 Nobel Laureate in Physics Prof. Dr. Ferenc Krausz, is an interdisciplinary, nonprofit research institution. We are an international team of laser scientists, molecular biologists, medical doctors, engineers, and data analysts who came together driven by a common goal: moving the frontiers of health monitoring and probing human health. Our mission is driven by the vision of a reliable, cost-effective approach to safeguard the health of whole populations and develop new ways for the earliest possible detection of diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.
As part of our groundbreaking H4H (Health for Hungary - Hungary for Health) Program, we are building one of the most ambitious longitudinal health monitoring initiatives in Europe. Over a 10-year period, biofluid samples are being collected from thousands of volunteers to enable large-scale molecular profiling and early disease detection.
To support this effort, CMF is establishing a large-scale metabolomics and lipidomics platform for the analysis of human plasma samples. Over the next three years, more than 100,000 plasma samples will be analyzed using a high-throughput LC–MS platform consisting of seven Waters G3 QTOF mass spectrometers.
We are seeking several Metabolomics Scientists (both junior and senior levels) to join our team and contribute to the development and operation of this high-throughput analytical pipeline. Successful candidates will play a key role in sample preparation, LC–MS measurements, quality control, and potentially metabolomics data processing within a large-scale cohort study.
This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the interface of metabolomics, population health, and large-scale analytical infrastructure, contributing to datasets that will enable new approaches to early disease detection.
Key Responsibilities:
High-throughput plasma LC-MS based metabolomics/lipidomics workflows
- Perform standardized preparation of human plasma samples for untargeted metabolomics and lipidomics analysis within the H4H programme and other collaborative programmes.
- Follow and maintain robust SOP-based workflows for high-throughput sample handling and processing.
- Ensure proper sample tracking, storage, and documentation within laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
LC-MS metabolomics/lipidomics analysis
- Operate and maintain Waters G3 QTOF LC-MS instruments as part of a high-throughput metabolomics platform.
- Conduct routine instrument calibration, system suitability checks, and performance monitoring.
- Execute metabolomics measurement batches, including quality control samples and reference standards.
- Monitor analytical runs, identify technical issues, and coordinate troubleshooting when needed.
Data processing and quality control (optional / depending on expertise)
- Contribute to the development and optimization of data processing pipelines for large-scale metabolomics datasets.
- Contribute to metabolomics data preprocessing and quality control, including feature detection, alignment, normalization, and batch correction.
- Evaluate analytical performance using quality control metrics and longitudinal instrument monitoring.
- Support the development of scalable data processing pipelines for large metabolomics datasets.
Collaboration and documentation
- Work closely with metabolomics, proteomics, lipidomics, and data science teams.
- Document experimental procedures, instrument performance, and analysis results.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of analytical methods and workflows.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- BSc in chemistry, biology or a related field.
- (For senior candidates) MSc or PhD in analytical chemistry, metabolomics, biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, or a related field.
Required
- Experience with biofluid sample preparation, particularly plasma or serum.
- Ability to work in a high-throughput analytical laboratory environment.
